We've had more than our fair share of rain lately and the same question keeps popping up in my inbox or conversations.... "what can about the mold?' It's everywhere at the moment in my community and no end in sight. Weeks and weeks of relentless rain and our homes are just damp all the time. Furniture, surfaces, and belongings are starting to "bloom" with spots of mold.
First of all, I don't recommend or use bleach. I prefer nicer aromas and safer, effective ingredients when it comes to cleaning. effective options that work. Here are things I'd shop for, oils to keep on hand and other natural cleansers. You most likely have some or all of these already. You'll have options to clean the things in your home. Get some white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, rubber gloves, face mask, scrub brushes, microfiber cloths, mop, glass spray bottle, and bucket. You will need potent and pure doTERRA Clove, Lemon, and Teatree essential oils, plus Onguard Cleaner Concentrate and Onguard Laundry Detergent. (you can order the oils and cleansers from me here if you don't have your own account - I recommend a wholesale account to save you $).
To get started I open windows and turn on fans. When possible, move moldy furniture belongings out into the sunshine on a nice day. Wash clothing, towels, linens with Onguard Laundry Detergent and hang them in sunshine. The detergent contains Clove and other essential oils to help with cleansing. Divide one full strength bottle of the detergent into 6 bottles of the same size and add water to fill. This is very economical and cheap to use! Use 1/2 - 1 capful of diluted detergent per load. Once you've managed to get the washing going, start cleaning surfaces, walls, floors.
Make a mixture of 1/3 cup white vinegar (or hydrogen peroxide), 2/3 cup water in a glass spray bottle. Add 5 drops of the Clove oil, 12 drops Lemon oil, and 8 drops of Teatree oil. Shake and mix well. Use this to spray on surfaces and walls. Wipe clean with a microfibre cloth. I advise you wear rubber gloves and good facemask during the cleaning.
To clean floors grab your bucket, mop, and Onguard Cleaner Concentrate. Pour 2-4 tablespoons of Onguard Cleaner Concentrate into the bucket and fill about halfway with hot water. Mop floor with solution. You can also use this solution for walls in surfaces if you prefer.
For other belongings and furniture, you can use the spray or the Onguard Cleaner Concentrate to wipe and remove mold with scrub brushes or microfibre cloths. I hope this is super helpful to you. To maintain and prevent further mold build up -use the spray on your surfaces occasionally and wipe them down. It's great for your shower too. Mop your floors with the mopping solution on a regular basis.
